What’s your women’s health ‘thing?’

My women's health "thing" is PERIODS – the pursuit of menstrual equity and the eradication of period poverty. This mission is rooted in the belief that access to menstrual products and comprehensive education about menstruation are fundamental rights, not privileges.

How has your women’s health ‘thing’ affected you throughout your life?

I got my period when I was 12; and started my career in period advocacy work 10 yeas ago when I was 16. While the vehicle of my work has changed, my mission hasn’t. I started in the nonprofit space, and then wrote a book, did more policy advocacy, and now I run a next gen period care brand.

What advice would you give to someone dealing with your same women’s health ‘thing?’

For those grappling with the same women's health "thing," my advice is one of courage and resilience. I implore you to raise your voice and advocate for your needs. Do not let societal taboos silence you or make you feel ashamed of your period. Seek allies in this shared experience and remember: solidarity is a powerful force for change. Community is everything!

Tell us how your women’s health ‘thing’ shaped your business, the business you’ve helped start, or your career trajectory.

My whole business is about periods. August is literally a sustainability and impact focused period care brand. We want to make better for you and planet tampons and pads, and de-stigmatize periods in all the brand growth we see.

How has your women’s health ‘thing’ shaped your life?

My commitment to menstrual equity has shaped more than my career; it has defined my life's trajectory. It has instilled in me a purpose, a relentless drive to effect positive change in our world. Periods also give me the best excuse to connect with strangers - because no matter how different we are; chances are we can relate about experiences with periods and period stigma.
