Delestrogen is a medication that contains estradiol, a form of estrogen. Delestrogen is often taking via an intramuscular injections. Estrogen therapy can be necessary during fertility treatments in order to thicken the lining of the uterus and maintain an ideal environment for an embryo at the time of transfer. It can also be used to synchronize follicle development in preparation for IVF.
Administration
Step 1: Gather your supplies and wash your hands
1 minutes
You will need: vial of Delestrogen, 1 cc syringe, 18 gauge 1 and ½ needle for mixing, 22 gauge 1 and ½ needle for administration, alcohol pads, and sharps disposal.
Step 2: Draw up your dose
1 minutes
With your mixing needle attached to your syringe, pull air into the syringe until the gauge reads the amount of medication your doctor prescribed.
Insert the needle into the vial and push the air out of the syringe before inverting the vial and drawing up the amount of medication your doctor prescribed.
Change from your mixing needle to your administration needle. Holding the syringe with the needle up, tap the barrel of the syringe and press on the plunger until all of the air is expelled from the needle.
Step 3: Pick your injection site
1 minutes
The best place to administer this injection is in the upper left or right butt cheek. You can switch off sides to reduce soreness. Clean the site with an alcohol pad and let air dry.
Step 4: Administer the injection
2 minutes
Holding the skin taught, hold the syringe at a 90 degree angle and insert it all the way in your skin.
Push down the plunger until all the medication is out of the syringe. When done, withdraw the needle. There might be a little bleeding afterwards so don't be alarmed.
Be sure to dispose of the needle in the sharps container. You did it!
